CSR 1 Registration

CSR-1 Registration

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending in India has opened a major funding avenue for NGOs. But before a company can donate, the NGO must be registered with the MCA by filing Form CSR-1. This approval verifies the organization’s legal status and eligibility to receive CSR funds — without it, companies cannot count contributions toward mandatory CSR spending.

What is CSR-1 Registration?

CSR-1 is an online registration filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. After approval, the NGO receives a unique CSR Registration Number, which companies use to validate eligibility before releasing CSR contributions.

It’s mandatory for NGOs that want to receive CSR funding under Section 135 of the Companies Act.

Who can apply?

  • Public Charitable Trusts

  • Registered Societies

  • Section 8 Companies

And they must have:

  • Valid 12A registration

  • Valid 80G approval

Section 8 Companies are exempt from the 3-year existence requirement, but trusts and societies must meet it.

Why CSR-1 matters

  • Mandatory for receiving CSR donations

  • Improves credibility during due diligence

  • Helps corporates verify NGO compliance quickly

  • Opens doors to structured partnerships and long-term funding

  • Required by most CSR teams, auditors, and impact consultants
